Life Below Water: Exploring the Wonders and Challenges of Our Oceans
Beneath the ocean’s surface lies a world teeming with life and mystery, yet facing serious threats from human activities.
Covering more than 70% of the Earth, our oceans host an incredible variety of life. "Life Below Water," a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), reminds us how important it is to protect these ecosystems. From tiny plankton to the enormous blue whale, marine life keeps our planet’s climate stable, produces oxygen, and provides food and resources to billions of people.
Unfortunately, our actions are putting this underwater world in danger. Overfishing, pollution, plastic waste, and climate change are some of the biggest threats. Coral reefs, which support about 25% of marine species, are at risk due to warming oceans, while plastic pollution kills millions of sea animals each year.
There are ways we can help. Choosing sustainable seafood, reducing plastic, joining beach clean-ups, and supporting ocean protection policies are small but impactful steps. Groups like Ocean Conservancy are working to protect marine life, but it’s up to all of us to make a difference. Let’s protect "Life Below Water" to ensure a healthier planet for future generations.
